Pipe bomb found during drug raid

While executing a search warrant for drugs in a home Tuesday, Metro Police found a pipe bomb in the kitchen, prompting the evacuation of as many as 15 nearby homes for two to three hours, police said.

No injuries were reported, and the man and woman living in the house near Warm Springs Road and Jones Boulevard were arrested on charges related to the bomb and drugs, police said.

Police began searching the single-family house on Bristol Crest Lane around 6 p.m. and found the pipe bomb about 30 minutes later, Lt. Brett Zimmerman said.

The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue bomb squad was called to the house, and they exploded the bomb in the house, Metro Officer Jose Montoya said.

Police also found methamphetamine in the house, he said.

The two residents of the house, Curtis Shewbert, 26, and Jillian Orlando, 27, were arrested and both charged with possession of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance and possession of an explosive device, Montoya said.

Both were booked into the Clark County Detention Center, he said.

Montoya said the people evacuated from their houses went to neighbors' or friends' homes for two or three hours, and then were allowed back into their homes. Ten to 15 homes were evacuated.

Police conducted the search warrant after receiving information from a confidential informant about possible drug activity at the house, Montoya said.
