Letter: School dress codes provide good training

This letter is in response to the Sept. 9 article about Kim Jacobs, who attends Liberty High School ("School dress code legality challenged"). Ms. Jacobs wore a T-shirt to school with a religious message on it. She was kicked out because she would not follow the school's dress code. The article also stated that Jacobs' father supports her right to violate the dress code 100 percent.

I support school dress codes. When kids dress for school, it is part of learning how to present themselves professionally when they are older and in the job market. All the kids are dressed to code and no one can be ashamed of how they are dressed and what labels they're wearing. School is for learning and preparing for the future, and having a dress code is a good start.

When Ms. Jacobs graduates and gets a job, she might have to wear a uniform or follow a dress code. Will she then argue about her individuality and say she doesn't have to follow the rules? Maybe she'll never have a job, as there are always rules and certain dress codes to follow.

I hope her father is satisfied with how he is raising his daughter. Children with such parents will fight for their rights and individuality, but will they care about anyone but themselves? It sure is a "me" world out there and parents like that are the reason why.
