Letter: Voter apathy is biggest threat our nation faces

On primary election day I hauled myself out of a sickbed and, dragging my oxygen tank behind me, I went to vote. It would have been unthinkable for me not to vote. Besides, it would have spoiled my perfect record. In the 49 years since I was 21, I have voted in every election, whether it was municipal, county, state or national.

Later in the day I said to many people, "Don't forget to vote." I am appalled by the variety of excuses I heard why they were not going to vote. They just didn't care. They don't care about who leads our city, our county, our state and our federal government? Apparently not.

If our great nation ever falls, it probably will not be at the hands of a foreign power. It will be because of the apathy of the American people.
