Hearing waived in death of cabbie

A man accused of murdering a cab driver by setting him on fire during a robbery attempt waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday and is now scheduled for arraignment before District Judge Jennifer Togliatti next Monday.

James Scholl, 33, is charged with murder, robbery, burglary, kidnapping, mayhem and third-degree arson in connection with the Aug. 20 attack on Pairoj Chitprasart, 51, a Nellis Cab driver.

Scholl continues to be held in the Clark County Detention Center without bail on the charges.

Police arrested Scholl a day later after he bragged to a friend that he had set a cabbie on fire because he refused to hand over his money. Scholl also allegedly had bragged in the past about robbing cabdrivers and threatening to douse them with gasoline if they didn't give him money, the police report says.
