Candidate says he has received no money

CARSON CITY -- Reno lawyer Kevin Mirch stands alone in his race for the Nevada Supreme Court.

Mirch, who is in the contest with three other candidates, reported he has not received any contributions but has spent $73,822 in the campaign.

At the other end of the scale is District Judge Jim Hardesty of Reno, who has collected $379,954 and has spent $312,400 in the race to succeed Chief Justice Miriam Shearing, who is retiring.

District Judge Cynthia "Dianne" Steel of Las Vegas has collected $58,206 and has spent $49,328. Don Ashworth of Las Vegas reported he has received $160,000.

The top two in the Tuesday primary election will face off in the general election.

In the other Supreme Court contest to succeed Justice Deborah Agosti, entertainment lawyer John Mason collected $737,591 and spent $714,724. District Judge Ron Parraguirre of Las Vegas reported receiving $310,959 and spending $289,840. Justice of the Peace Douglas Smith collected $171,475 and spent $155,739, and former state Sen. Lori Lipman of Las Vegas received $7,324 and spent $5,675.
