Bail set at $620,000 for alleged rapist

Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 | 10:58 a.m.

A 38-year-old man accused of committing a series of rapes in the late 1990s in the East Flamingo Road area will have to post $620,000 in bail to get out of the Clark County Detention Center, a judge ruled this morning.

Dushon Green has been held without bail since he was arrested Tuesday and booked into the county jail on 34 counts of sexual assault-related crimes.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman set the amount despite a request from the public defender's office for bail of $100,000. She also set a preliminary hearing scheduled of Sept. 13.

Deputy District Attorney Mary Brown argued bail should be set at $1 million due to the "extreme danger he (Green) presented to the security of the community, especially to the woman of Nevada."

Green, who displayed a meek manner before Zimmerman, said he might be retaining a private attorney to represent him.

Detectives issued the arrest warrant for Green after DNA evidence linked him to five sexual assaults between December 1996 and March 1998, and investigators with the Criminal Apprehension Team took him into custody at his home on Cambridge Street near Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway.
