WEEKEND EDITION
October 30 - 31, 2004
November is Native American Heritage Month, and to celebrate, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is presenting an assortment of free events around the valley for adults and children of all ages.
Native American Heritage Month is one of four annual heritage months presented by the library district's Celebrate Cultural Diversity initiative, which is aimed at providing people "of many ethnicities the opportunity to come together to learn about different cultures and celebrate their own."
As part of the celebration, the library district will be holding its fifth annual Native American Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The popular event will feature dance and artisan demonstrations, films, children's activities and a variety of food.
The festival will also feature a craft market with jewelry, pottery, carvings, as well as performances by the Hopi Sinom Dance Group of the Shungopavi Village, McCabe Family Dancers & Nate Morris, Nawetsa Dance Group and more.
Other events are scheduled to take place throughout the month, including performances and workshops by contemporary jazz stylist Larry Redhouse. Wood-carving demonstrations, flute playing and intertribal drumming presentations are also planned.
All events are free and open to the public, though some are limited by age group. For more information, call 734-7323 or visit lvccld.org.
