The nation now regrets how Vietnam veterans were treated after returning home. But a lot of people don't realize that the Vietnam syndrome is still alive -- in the way homeless veterans are treated.
They are, at times, rousted by the police, with political encouragement. They are, at times, denied treatment at VA hospitals for wounds and illnesses suffered during their service.
All veterans' and citizens' groups should work together to ensure that Congress and the Veterans Affairs Department give them the help they earned and deserve.
