Trails Day set in Boulder City

Trails Day at the State Railroad Museum in Boulder City will be celebrated 8 a.m. Friday.

Horse owners will head out for a trail ride. There will also be hikes and a run on nearby trails. Bicyclists may board the train for a ride to their starting point on the trail.

When the trail users return, there will be a complimentary lunch provided by the Railroad Pass hotel. There will also be free T-shirts while supplies last. Parents are urged to bring their own children.

Health fair planned at college campus

The University of Southern Nevada will hold its first Halloween Health Festival 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in the Student Lounge at the campus, 11 Sunset Way, Henderson.

Representatives will offer free screenings for blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and bone density, as well as balance and pulmonary screenings. The festival will also offer a variety of information from medical groups, yoga instructors and massage therapists, as well as food, tea tastings and live entertainment.

The Gladiators will be on hand to greet guests and sign autographed pictures. Metro's K-9 unit will show how they help with public safety. Call 990-4433.

Red Rock will host Tortoise Trot

Friends of Red Rock Canyon will host the third annual Tortoise Trot, a 5k competitive trail run and a 2-mile noncompetitive trail run/walk beginning 8 a.m. Sunday at Red Rock Canyon.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of Red Rock Canyon, a nonprofit volunteer organization.

Teams of 10 or more may also enter.

The pre-registration entry fee for runners is: $25 per individual participant under age 65; $15 per participant age 65 and older; $15 per participant for those entering with a team; and $35 on the day of the event.

The 2-mile run/walk will be held on the Moenkopi loop beginning and ending at the Visitor Center. The entry fee id $10 per individual participant.

Entertainment Expo planned at Nugget

Minnie Madden's Callback News is hosting the first Entertainment Expo and Job Fair 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at the Golden Nugget.

Professional entertainers and performers can meet and network with the entertainment buyers of the major Strip properties, cruise lines, amusement parks and national production companies.

Performers will be allowed 10 minutes to display their talent and ability for the entertainment directors and buyers, looking for their next big star. Anyone interested or who is looking for show business contacts is encouraged to attend.

The event is free and all attending will have the opportunity to visit the expo booths, which have been taken by entertainers, managers, agents and services available to the entertainment industry.

Discover Aviation show set at Jean

The Discover Aviation Air Show will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m Saturday and Sunday at Jean Sport Aviatio Airfield in Jean, 20 miles south of Las Vegas on Interstate 15.

The show will offer an air show; aerobatics and gliders; and military, experimental, vintage and general aviation air crafts will be on display. Also, attendees will learn about the history of aviation in Southern Nevada.

The event is free and open to the public.

Representatives of spiritual teacher Sant Thakar Singh
