Wilderness class planned at CCSN
Community College of Southern Nevada, Continuing Education Division and Friends of Nevada Wilderness present Wilderness and You, a class offered 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-5p.m. Saturday at CCSN, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd., Room C222.
The class includes a lecture and slide show about wildlife, plants, and wilderness and wilderness issues on Friday, and a field trip to a federally designate wilderness area on Saturday. Bring a sack lunch and water, and travel is by private car. Hermi Hiatt and Susan Potts are the instructors.
Cost if $75. Those 55 and over receive a 10 percent discount -- ask when registering. The call number is 88954, for phone registration the course verification number is CREC113.

Applications due for basketball
Henderson will accept mail-in registration for its seasonal youth basketball program beginning Monday through Nov. 13.
Drop-off registration will be accepted Nov. 15-18. Walk-in registration will be accepted (pending space availability) on player rating days -- November 20, 22 and 23. Mail-in registration is given priority over all other methods of registration.
Registration is $35 per child (kindergarten through 10th grade); $30 per child if two siblings are registered; and $25 per child if three or more siblings are registered. Practices begin the week of December 6, and the season runs January 8 through February 19.

St. Jude's will host Fall Festival
St. Jude's Ranch for Children will celebrate the 37th annual Fall Festival 9 a.m. Sunday at St. Jude's Ranch in Boulder City in honor of the many donations of money, time, and materials.
The event will be followed by a pancake breakfast and a softball game between ranch youth and members of Boulder City Police.
The antique auto museum and the St. Jude's gift shop, as well as one of the homes and the on-campus DARE office, will be open for tours. Crafts and gifts made by the children of St. Jude's Ranch will be available for purchase. A self-guided walking tour of the Ranch will also be available.

Red Rock Visitor Center
will present a program 9 a.m.-noon Saturday on how to properly prepare and be prepared for the unexpected when hiking. Learn basic techniques on the use of maps and compasses with hands on use of equipment. The program will be on the trails. Dress for the weather, and bring water, sunscreen and a hat. The fourth annual Tricky Trunk
or Treat event will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday at the Molasky Community School, 7801 W. Gilmore Ave. The event will feature a costume contest, trick-or-treating, carnival games, and a craft project in a safe Halloween atmosphere. Admission is $2 Call 229-5345.
Henderson Parks and Recreation
will host a performance by harpist Alfredo Rolando Ortiz 7 p.m. Saturday at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Admission is $8; $5 for youth and seniors. Call 267-4055.
Bikini's at the Rio
will host a Rock 'n Roll fundraiser for the Animal Foundation 8 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. The suggested donation is $100; $150 per couple. Call 385-7300 for details.
Lutheran Social Services of Nevada
presents Showcase of Hope 2004, a special concert benefiting LSSN will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lance Burton Theater at the Monte Carlo, featuring performers from shows on the Las Vegas Strip. Tickets are $35; $30; 425. Call 730-7160.
