Standoff ends with no shots

A man was arrested early Monday night after a two-hour standoff with police at the man's northeast Las Vegas home.

The man's ex-girlfriend and a friend went to the home, in the 800 block of Dusk Drive near North Nellis Boulevard and East Bonanza Road, about 5:45 p.m. to pick up her belongings, according to Metro Police Lt. Chris Carroll. When the women entered the house, the man pointed a rifle at them and said he was going to shoot them, Carroll said.

The two women escaped and called police, Carroll said. When police arrived, the man came out of the house and told officers he would "shoot it out."

Metro's SWAT team was called to the scene and for two hours tried to get the man to surrender, police said. The man opened the doors and windows to the home a few times, but would not come out of the house, police said.

Officers continued to communicate with the man and also set off several distraction devices, police said. The man finally surrendered and was taken into custody at about 6 p.m.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the standoff, police said.
