Thursday decision on Hamm's medal

U.S. gymnast Paul Hamm will find out Thursday whether he can keep his Olympic gold medal.

Hamm won the all-around title in Athens, but South Korea's Yang Tae-young wants the Court of Arbitration for Sport to change the results and move him from third place to first because of a scoring error.

Hamm and Yang appeared before a panel of the CAS in Lausanne on Sept. 27. The court said today it will issue its verdict Thursday.

Hamm has said he will abide by the ruling of the CAS, which cannot be appealed.

Ex-players arrested

Two former West Virginia University players, Travis Garvin and Alvoid Mays, were arrested on charges of robbing a supermarket in Glenville, W.Va., at gunpoint. Mays also played six seasons in the NFL with Pittsburgh and Washington.

Cheer captain sues

Courtney Prince, a former captain of the New York Rangers' ice skating cheerleaders, filed a lawsuit Monday in federal court in Manhattan, accusing Madison Square Garden officials of sexually harassing her and of firing her after she told other skaters that she had been solicited for sex by a Rangers executive.

Glazer buys more

Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer increased his stake in Manchester United for the third consecutive trading day, upping his ownership share today to 28.11 percent and edging closer still to a possible takeover bid.

College coach quits

Ricky Blanton resigned as the Nicholls State men's coach, less than a week after preseason practice began for his third season at the Thibodaux, La., school. Blanton, a member of LSU's Final Four team in 1986, cited family reasons for quitting.

Harrison out

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Alvin Harrison, 30, accepted a four-year suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency today for drug violations uncovered in the BALCO case.
