Seminar on buying a home scheduled
The North Las Vegas Library in partnership with Bank of American and Liberty Realty is offering a home buying seminar in Spanish 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.
Attendees will get information about how to begin the home-buying process, how much cash will be needed, learn about credit and qualifying for a loan and discover that buying a home may be easier than they thought.
Child care will be provided to ensure maximum participation of families. The seminar is presented by Leo Whitney of Bank of America along with members of the realty and mortgaging community. Call 633-1070.
Navy to celebrate 229th birthday
The Las Vegas Council, Navy League of the United States, and the Las Vegas Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center are sponsoring the Navy Birthday Ball 6 p.m. Saturday in the Bienville Ballroom at the Orleans.
The event will celebrate the 229th anniversary of the Navy.
Actor Tony Curtis, a World War II Navy veteran and member of the Navy League, will be the keynote speaker.
Tickets are $60.

Heart Walk on tap at UNLV campus
The American Heart Association's Heart Walk will begin 8:30 a.m. Saturday at UNLV to raise funds to support heart disease and stroke research and educational programs.
The event will feature a noncompetitive 5k walk through the UNLV campus; health screenings; health and nutritional information; stress busters; a bounce house; face painting; child ID service; food and live entertainment.

Make-A-Wish fundraiser planned
Las Vegas residents are urged to help children with life-threatening medical conditions have their wishes granted by joining in a fundraising event noon-6 p.m. Saturday at the Cold Stone Creamery, 9350 W. Sahara Ave.
The store will give 15 percent of the profit made during the event to the Southern Nevada chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Call 455-7650.
