Letter: Uniforms are apropos in class
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 | 9:15 a.m.
Parents expect schools to present the band, the basketball team, the cheerleading team, the football team, the softball team, the volleyball team and the track team in uniforms. If their child is in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or Little League, they proudly dress them accordingly.
But if their children are to be members of a public school's student body, engaged in everyday learning activities, parents find it an imposition if their children are asked to dress and act the part of a student.
Maybe we'd have fewer students failing if we acted as if math, science, English and social studies were as important as the extracurricular activities.
