Lied to feature Days of Dead altars

Now through Nov. 14, the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North, will exhibit several ofrendas (altars) and will present several activities as part of its participation in the festivities of Los Dias de los Muertos, or the Days of the Dead.

The main event will be held Nov. 6 with special workshops presented by visiting artists.

The series is sponsored in part by a grant from the Nevada Humanities Committee, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Admission is $7; $6 for children ages 1 through 17, seniors, and military families.

Red Rock cleanup planned Saturday

Friends of Red Rock Canyon, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, is sponsoring the annual Trash Bash Day 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Volunteers on Saturday will be divided into groups and assigned a trash collection project with a work leader. A short training session will be provided for participants on how to work in Red Rock's sensitive environment.

Workers under 18 must have a signed parental consent form. Everyone is advised to bring gloves, hat, sunscreen and water.

All participants will receive a barbecue lunch and a T-shirt.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada

is offering a variety of clinical cancer research studies. There are current trials for lymphoma and breast, colon, colorectal, esophagus/gastric, lung and prostate cancer. For more information and to check eligibility call 952-3400.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,

Western High School Class of 1969's

35th reunion will be Thursday through Sunday. Activities include a walking tour of the campus, a tailgate party hosted by the WHS Grill Club, the homecoming parade and game, golf tournament, dinner, dance, champaign brunch, door prizes and raffles. The Las Vegas Charter School

of the Deaf will present a benefit show Monday at the Orleans. Entertainers include the Scintas, the Frankie Moreno Band, and Genevieve, a graduate of the Juilliard School of music. Tickets are currently on sale at the Orleans, or can be obtained by calling 365-7070.

Legislative candidates will be featured
