Public can comment on land-use plans
Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 | 8:20 a.m.
Clark County will have two public meetings to discuss updates to the master land-use plans in Paradise and Winchester townships this month.
Paradise and Winchester include much of the Strip, McCarran International Airport and older neighborhoods in southern Las Vegas.
The plans, which last year were given new authority by the County Commission, guide the growth and new zoning decisions for areas in the unincorporated portions of the county.
The county is encouraging residents, builders and business operators with an in interest in the land uses for their neighborhoods to attend the open-house meetings.
The meeting for the Paradise land use plan will be Saturday, and the meeting on the Winchester plan will be Oct. 16. Both meetings are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday's Paradise meeting will be at Chaparral High School, 3850 Annie Oakley Drive. The Winchester meeting Oct. 16 will be at Peterson Elementary School, 3650 Cambridge St.
The open houses are the first in a series of public meetings in which county staff will gather public comment. Most future meetings during the update process will combine the two communities because they share the same land-use plan.
The Winchester/Paradise update is the third to take place since the board adopted new rules governing the master plans. Updates to the Spring Valley and Enterprise township plans are scheduled for adoption later this year. The entire update process takes about 18 months.
"I hope people who live and work in Paradise and Winchester participate in the process," said Commissioner Myrna Williams, who represents much of the area.
