Letter: All expressions of political opinion must be tolerated
Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 | 3:59 a.m.
During this presidential campaign season, we hear many speeches about the great freedoms we as Americans enjoy in this country. However, it seems that for some people freedom of speech is only for those who agree with them.
I recently put a sign in my front yard voicing my choice for president. The first four days, someone came into my yard and took it down, leaving it on the walkway. On the fifth day, the sign was taken.
Freedom cannot exist in an environment that does not tolerate and respect differences of opinion. The taking of my sign showed a lack of respect and tolerance for my right to choose and to voice that choice openly. Suppression of speech is certainly a threat to our freedom.
