Fishing report: Striped bass still the catch in Boulder Basin

Nevada Department of Wildlife

The Las Vegas Wash area continues to attract boaters who are attracting stripers by chumming with corn then drifting with anchovies. Most of the fish have been around a pound, but some up to 5 pounds.

While anglers haven't been seeing many shad in the Boulder Basin, just the opposite is true in the Overton Arm where the bait fish are being observed from Overton Beach to Echo Bay. The large amount of bait fish may be impacting the fishing success as anglers have not brought many stripers to the cleaning stations.

Over the weekend, Nevada Department of Wildlife creel census clerks said anglers have caught largemouth bass at Fish Island and Ann Marguret Cove.

About the only shore fishing success has been taking place at Special Events Beach and Hemenway Harbor where channel catfish are being caught at night.

Rainbow trout fishing has been good following the weekly plants at Willow Beach.

A few anglers fishing from the dock caught several stocker-size rainbow trout and brown trout that ranged 11-13 inches. The water is still a little murky.

Dan Maes, NDOW area technician, said anglers have been catching trout that were recently planted in the lakes as well as some fish that weigh up to 2 pounds. There have been reports of anglers catching trout that weigh up to 4 pounds at Adams-McGill Reservoir. Daytime highs have been in the low 70s while evenings have been plunging into the 30s. Surface temperatures on the lakes are in the mid 60s.
