Last year's tournament
He needed to shoot 4-under-par over the final 12 holes to force a playoff and 32-year-old Australian Stuart Appleby followed up that hot finish by winning the tournament on the first extra hole. It was a putting contest as Appleby and Scott McCarron had nearly identical 15-foot putts to win. Appleby went first and made his, then watched as McCarron missed his.
Appleby, who has finished second-second-first in his past three trips to Las Vegas, was a winner for the first time since the Shell Houston Open in 1999.
He began the final round at TPC Summerlin one shot behind third-round leader and playing partner Steve Flesch, who shot a 74 on Sunday to finish six strokes behind the leaders.
