Letter: Secrecy can’t be allowed to stand
Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 | 9:12 a.m.
This is not an attack on President Bush, John Kerry or any other individual -- it is intended as a reminder of a serious flaw in our governmental procedures and a mind set that must be corrected.
Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts and Rep. John Lewis of Georgia have been repeatedly denied access to their regular flights to and from Washington, and the airline employees are prevented by law from telling them why! Eventually some higher-ranking employee comes to their rescue but still cannot reveal the great secret. Eventually they found out about a "Do not fly list," but no one can tell them of any way to make an appeal.
If a recognized U.S. senator and congressman cannot correct an obvious error, what chance have you and I?
This is only one demonstration of the secrecy existing throughout every U.S. government department and bureau. We must find a way to fix this in order to survive.
