Apparently the recently conducted study concerning cameras in taxicabs included a focus group that asked the opinions of the public concerning this matter. I realize that this city caters to the patrons of casinos, but do we need their opinions before we implement common-sense safety matters?
Would we ask their permission before placing security cameras in casinos, convenience stores and the airport? Would we ask for their approval before issuing the police department guns and bullet-resistant vests?
Asking for their permission before allowing our cab drivers to have crime-deterring cameras in their vehicles is just as ridiculous. Our cab drivers, including my husband, deserve to be safe even if it means a few tourists find it inconvenient.
