Health District sets HIV workshops

The Clark County Health District Office of AIDS is presenting a new informational workshop series for those affected by HIV/AIDS. The series dubbed "Partners in Care" will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the 2300 S. Rancho Drive, Suite 211.

The workshops target people whose daily life is directly affected by HIV/AIDS, and seek to improve their quality of life by providing empowering, educational information.

Counselors from the health district will host a variety of guest speakers each week, including: a specialist in HIV/AIDS treatment education, a nutritionist, social worker, pharmacist and mental health professional.

The sessions are free.

Gallery event will help Candlelighters

Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery will present the Netback Trucker Hat Show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 4510 Arville St., Suite B, to benefit Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada.

Local and out of town artists have illustrated Netback trucker hats, which will be auctioned the night of the event.

Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada is a nonprofit organization that provides support services to families of children with cancer.

Car wash joins with animal shelter

Droopy Dog Mobile Car Wash will bring provide free car washes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Lied Animal Shelter, 655 N. Mojave Road, to those who visit the vaccination clinic or adopt a dog or cat.

Rain checks for a car wash will also be offered if the company is not able to complete all car washes during the event hours.

Church will host literacy fair

Tabernacle of Praise Church will host its first Literacy Fair from 10 am. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Children's Memorial Park, Rainbow Boulevard and Gowan Road.

The goal of the fair is to provide 100 children with a book of their choice, along with information on programs that are working to promote literacy.

The event will feature entertainers, educators, community leaders as well as activities for children as well as a story time. Call 655-3867.

Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church,

10075 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 114, Henderson, will host its first feast of St. Francis of Assisi from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Dos Escuelas Park, Henderson. Call 914-2175.

The American Red Cross
