Letter: President refuses to repent from his wicked ways

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 | 9:17 a.m.

I totally agree with the column by Maureen Dowd, who writes for The New York Times, that was published Nov. 9 in the Sun. She was right in saying that President Bush has been in a dark place for the past four years and that it will get even darker in the next four years.

Timothy R. Carroll, in a Nov. 19 letter, took issue with her column, stating that Americans want to revert to biblical principles and morality. If Americans did this it would be just fine. But Bush supporters and the DeLays, Roves and members of the religious right should qualify their morals.

Abortions and gay marriages are a mortal sin to them. But is it not a sin to: Start an unjust war with thousands and thousands killed or maimed; to ease pollution controls so that millions will suffer from brain damage and have deformed babies; to not raise the minimum wage, causing many people to go hungry and without medical care; to give huge tax cuts to the wealthy, thereby oppressing the poor to enhance the rich; and to fail to provide even basic health insurance to more than 45 million Americans?

There are so many sins this adminstration has committed that space does not allow me to list all of them.

Whatever happened to dissent in this country? What is wrong with protecting citizens' rights? Most of us Democrats do not personally condone abortions and gay marriages, but we do feel it is our duty to protect everyone's rights. Can Bush supporters say the same?
