Car crashes into street lights, tree
A 56-year-old man was critically injured this morning after losing control of his car and hitting several light poles and a tree on Pecos Road near Sunrise Avenue, Metro Police said.
David Hemphill of Las Vegas was heading south in the northbound lanes of Pecos when he drove onto the sidewalk and hit a light pole about 4:10 a.m., Detective Dennis Magill said.
Hemphill's 2000 Toyota Camry began to spin and it continued south, sliding sideways. It hit a large tree and another light pole and Hemphill was thrown from the car.
He is being treated at University Medical Center. Police are still investigating the collision.
Three arrested in stolen car case
Metro Police this morning arrested three men wanted for stealing a car after an officer believed one of the men shot a gun at him, police said.
The three men, whose names and ages were not available this morning, were arrested about 4:30 this morning in the 600 block of Red Lake Way near Charleston Boulevard and Christy Lane in eastern Las Vegas after they were reportedly stripping a car on the street, Officer Jose Montoya, a spokesman for Metro, said.
Officers chased four men at the scene, one of whom escaped, before apprehending three, Montoya said. During the arrest, an officer heard a gunshot he believed was aimed at the officers, he said. None of the officers saw a gun pointed at police.
The men were arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary, Montoya said. Police had not immediately found a gun.

A Metro officer on patrol heard gunshots in the 900 block of Doolittle Avenue about 11 p.m. Saturday and saw five males running toward a parked car at a nearby apartment complex, police said.
Police stopped the young men found several guns in the car.
