Driver killed in flood channel crash

A man was killed Wednesday when he crashed into a flood control channel, according to Metro Police.

The driver, Stephen Cox, 41, apparently was driving his Chevrolet truck north on Industrial Road past Ali Baba Lane at about 7:15 p.m. when he ran off the road at a turn, according to a statement from police.

The truck then went through a chain-link fence, drove into a flood control channel and hit a concrete wall, where Cox was thrown from the car and died, police reported.

Police suspect alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the collision and that Cox was not wearing his seat belt.

Van hits two children on bike

The 14-year-old boy apparently was riding his bike down Meikle Lane with his 8-year-old sister on the handlebars about 3:45 Thursday afternoon when and failed to stop where Meikle meets Linn Lane, police said.

Madeline Martinez, 41, was driving her Chevrolet Astro van north on Linn Lane and collided with the children when they rode into her path, according to the police.

Police reported that the boy was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and his sister with minor injuries; she was treated and released.

The boy's condition was not available this morning.
