Yes, your true love might give you those things, and so much more, if he or she does their holiday shopping at the annual Las Vegas Sun Holiday Auction.

Like your Aunt Edna's fruitcake, the charity auction or as some of us insiders like to call it, the Land of Misfit Payola and Promotional Items That We Receive During The Year But Can't Keep Because Ethically It Wouldn't Be Right Sweepstakes His back for its seventh year.

As usual, all profits from the auction will go to a good cause the Sun Youth Summer Camp Fund.

As we and everybody else like to say, there's something for everyone on your list unless your loved one plays basketball for the Indiana Pacers. Because you won't find "lump of coal" on the list of items below.

But you will find an A&E "Airplane" key chain (item No. 27) endorsed by Ted Striker and Capt. Clarence Oveur, a deck of "America's Most Wanted" playing cards (No. 142) with instructions on what to do if you see the Six of Clubs roaming your neighborhood after dark and the 2005 Nuns Having Fun Calendar (No. 177). At my school, that last item also would have come with a steel ruler.

For the Tiger Woods fan who needs his stocking stuffed, there's a copy of EA Sports' Tiger Woods 2004 video game for the PC (No. 118) and a Tiger Woods bobble head doll (No. 172) that nods its head every time the Elin Nordegren doll (not included) opens its mouth.

Political pundits might enjoy the Ronald Reagan action figure (No. 113) or the "Encyclopedia of Republican Knowledge," which consists of 118 mostly blank pages (No. 130). I might add that last item is a sequel to the "Encyclopedia of Democratic Knowledge," which also consists of 118 mostly blank pages (No. 131).

For the hard-to-buy-for beer drinker or St. Patrick's Day enthusiast, there are Guinness Draught (No. 62) and Murphy's Irish Amber (No. 63) glasses. When filled to the brim and combined with the "Bend It Like Beckham" DVD, these also make a fine gift for the soccer fan on your list.

While we don't want to give the Lady of the House too many ideas about getting the Man of the House off his keister during bowl game season, a subtle hint that might work would be leaving the Glidden ceiling paint with roller and tray (No. 90) next to his beer and pretzels.

Of the many NASCAR-themed books up for auction, one title that piqued my interest was the 144-page paperback "NASCAR Women." But unless you've been to the infield on a humid day at Talladega, you may want to consider "Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul" (No. 19) instead.

Everything -- with the possible exception of the Fredericks of Hollywood woman's pink boxer shorts with hearts and sleep mask (No. 51) -- must go, so get to biddin'.

Instructions

Study the descriptions of the listed items. Make your bid by using the numbers listed AND referring to the item by name on a 3x5 index card (preferred) or a sheet of paper. You can bid on as many items as you like, but each bid must be listed on a separate index index card or sheet of paper.

Mail or drop-off bids

Las Vegas Sun Holiday Auction, 2275 Corporate Circle Drive, Suite 300, Henderson, NV 89074.

On each bid, list the item, its number and the price you are willing to pay along with name, address and daytime and evening phone numbers.

You can also drop off your bid as the Las Vegas Sun office, 2275 Corporate Circle Drive in Henderson (Green Valley Parkway at the I-215 off-ramp).

E-mail rules

You can also bid by visiting the Sun web site (www.lasvegassun.com) and clicking on the Sun holiday auction link. Again, send a separate e-mail for each item you want to bid on. Please list the item by number AND its brief description. Items must be picked up in person, so if you e-mail from Dubuque and aren't planning on spending the holidays in Las Vegas, please save the bandwith.

Deadlines

The deadline for bidding is Friday, Dec. 17. Merchandise can be picked up during business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) at the Sun building beginning Monday, Dec. 20. Winning bidders will be notified by e-mail or telephone (mail or drop-off bids). All sales are final.

Remember, this is a charity auction and not a competition. So please, no wagering. And please do not call the Sun to inquire about merchandise.

In the case of duplicate items, they will be awarded to the coinciding number of top bidders. For instance, if there are two items up for auction, the top two bidders will receive them.
