The hot spot for stripers following the plants was Pumphouse Cove where an angler reeled in a striper that weighed 16 1/2 pounds. Reports from the anglers who were on hand for the trout plant said stripers broke the surface soon after the stocking.
Most of the trout plants did not take place on the lake until late morning because of problems encountered at other stocking sites. One of the problems was that ice covered Cold Creek Pond in the Spring Mountain Range so workers had to break it before they could stock the fish.
Stripers continue to be caught by boaters who are fishing at the mouth of Las Vegas Wash. Most of the fish are healthy and there have been a fair number of fish caught recently that weigh 4-5 pounds. Jigging, trolling, casting top water lures and drifting with anchovies are all catching the fish.
Very few anglers took to the water over the weekend in the Overton Arm because of difficult fishing and boating conditions caused by a rainstorm. The next trout plants are scheduled for next Friday at Hemenway, Horsepower, Pumphouse and North Saddle coves.
The success for rainbow trout has fallen off in the past couple of weeks because of the low water level. It appears that the trout are heading to deep water after being stocked. NDOW will be stocking trout at Cottonwood Cove, Placer Cove and Willow Beach next Friday.
