PUC staff agrees to rate-change revisions

A Nevada Power Co. plan to alter the pace of two already-approved rate changes has been agreed to by the staff of the state Public Utilities Commission and the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
The stipulated agreement, which must still be approved by the PUC commissioners, will extend current rates through March, instead of allowing them to expire on Jan. 1. At that time, a smaller rate increase will go into effect, producing a slight projected rate decrease.
The agreement will be affected by a new rate increase request filed by the Las Vegas electric company that seeks recovery of $115.9 million in unrecovered costs spent on past fuel and power purchases.
