Fishing report: Boulder Basin boaters finding bass

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

The old Las Vegas Wash Arm toward the 33 Hole continues to produce most of the fish. A variety of methods are being used to catch stripers including drifting with anchovies, trolling, casting top water lures and jigging.

Shore fishing remains slow although there have been reports of stripers being caught at the mouth of Gypsum Wash.

Over the weekend, NDOW creel census said most of the boaters who were fishing in the Overton Arm had very little success. The exception came on Saturday when two boaters were checked who had 15 stripers that ranged 2-3 pounds. They reported catching the fish with anchovies and sardines at Fire, Salt and Ann Marguret coves.

NDOW will be stocking rainbow trout on Tuesday at Hemenway, Horsepower, Pumphouse and North Saddle coves.

Boaters are still using anchovies and squid to catch stripers that range from a half-pound to 3 pounds in the narrows above Cottonwood. Most of the fish that were caught over the weekend weighed less than a pound.

The 24 anglers who competed in a two-day largemouth bass fishing tournament held over the weekend had poor results. They only brought 21 bass to the scales with the winning fish being 6.25 pounds while the runner-up was 4.1 pounds.

A rainbow trout plant is scheduled to take place at Power Line Cove on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Fishing has been fair for the few anglers who have been trying their luck for rainbow trout at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs.
