City of Anaheim wants answers about Angels
City officials sent letters to the Anaheim Angels and Major League Baseball on Tuesday asking whether a possible name change has already been provisionally approved.
The letter from the City Council also seeks assurances from the team and league that the name will not be changed, and comes after the council again threatened to sue if the team changes its name from the Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels.
The possibility of a name change was first reported in July. Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times quoted an unidentified high-ranking baseball official as saying baseball commissioner Bud Selig had given permission to Angels owner Arte Moreno to rename the team.
Weber coach quits
Coach Jerry Graybeal resigned in the wake of Weber State's 10 season, worst in school history but just one season after he was named Big Sky Conference coach of the year. The Wildcats were 8-4 in 2003 and Graybeal was given a three-year contract extension.
Rebels honored
Three members of the UNLV men's team were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference team -- forward Rod Dyachenko, midfielder Victor "Boomer" Arbelaez and midfielder Brendon Bain.
Roddick hangs on
Andy Roddick had to wait out a rain delay before finishing off a touch 7-5, 7-6 (6) victory against Tim Henman in the first round of the ATP Masters Cup in Houston. Lleyton Hewitt beat Carlos Moya and Marat Safin beat Guillermo Coria in other first-round matches.
