The dean of UNLV's school of nursing was inducted into the prestigious American Academy of Nursing on Saturday.
The academy selected Carolyn B. Yucha because of her past contributions to nursing and health care and because of the potential she has shown to continue to advance health care in the United States, said academy president Joan L. Shaver in a statement.
"Yucha is a highly qualified and savvy leader who is literally at the top of her profession," Shaver said.
Yucha came to UNLV in July from the University of Florida, where she received several grants from the National Institutes of Health for her research on non-pharmacological ways to treat high blood pressure.
At UNLV, she has been working to develop the infrastructure needed to support more research efforts at the School of Nursing and to develop a new doctorate in nursing education, Ray Alden, UNLV senior vice president and provost, said. An information session on the new doctorate is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 8:30 a.m. in the Rod Lee Bigelow Health Science Building.
