A 12-year-old Las Vegas boy who was stabbed in the chest with a butcher knife during an attack in which his mother was killed, was upgraded from serious to fair condition on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for University Medical Center said Shilo Edsitty will remain in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit today but could be transferred to a regular room this week.
Edsitty survived the Nov. 8 attack at a Las Vegas apartment complex where his mother, 31-year-old Teresa Tilden, was killed. En route to the hospital, Edsitty, a sixth-grader at Schofield Middle School, told authorities who attacked him and his mother, police said.
Later that day, police arrested James Valdez, 29, and charged him with murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Nov. 29 in Justice Court.
