NLV will hold public meetings

North Las Vegas is holding several public meetings this week to get community input on a 20-year plan for the city.

The meetings for what is being called the Visioning 2025 Plan are the next step in the development of the plan, which began in the spring.

The City Council is scheduled to attend a Wednesday meeting, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive.

The other scheduled meetings are:

Tuesday: 10 a.m.-noon, Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen St.; 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Trinity AME Church, 700 Lola Ave.

Wednesday: 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Sun City Aliante Sales Pavilion, 7390 Aliante Parkway.

Thursday: 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Latin Chamber of COmmerce, 300 North 13th St.; 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Swainston Middle School, 3500 Gilmore Ave., North Las Vegas.

Meadows to host Festival of Giving

The Meadows mall will close to the general public 6 p.m. Sunday and then reopen at 7 p.m. exclusively for ticket holders for the "Festival of Giving," a night of shopping featuring special store discounts, gifts, door prizes, refreshments and entertainment to benefit local nonprofit organizations.

Balloon artists, face painters, jugglers and strolling carolers will be featured, refreshments will be on hand and free gift-wrapping will be available. There will also be an opportunity for photos with Santa.

Admission to the festival is $5. Tickets can be purchased at local nonprofit organizations, schools and churches, with 100 percent of the ticket proceeds benefiting these groups. For more information, call Kristi Walkoski at 878-3331.

It's that time to Strut Your Mutt

Clark County Parks and Community Services will host the 15th annual Strut Your Mutt event 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Dog Fanciers Park, 5800 E. Flamingo Road.

Geared toward dog lovers, Strut Your Mutt includes canine contests for adults and children, canine related demonstrations, pet stars and stars with pets, and vendor booths.

The North Las Vegas Library,

2300 Civic Center Drive, is offering a computer class in Spanish 2 p.m. Saturday at the library. The class will be taught by Hector Morales. For required preregistration, call 633-1070.

"Winter Survival," an informative program

for ages 10 to adult, will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. Learn some hiking preparation ideas. Be prepared for a short hike. Meet at the Visitor Center. For reservations, call 515-5350.

Nathan Adelson Hospice will host a free benefit concert

6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday at Winchester Community Center, 3130 McLeod Drive. Donations are welcomed to benefit Ladybrand Hospice and Orphan Relief Effort, a South African sister hospice Nathan Adelson Hospice adopted in early 2004. The event is open to the public. Call 733-0320.
