Scherer, former spokeswoman, for LV, named to state post

Kay Scherer, who has worked for Las Vegas and former Attorney General Brian McKay, has been named assistant director of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Scherer, 47, of Carson City was named to the post by Allen Biaggi, director of the department. For the past four years she has been president of Nevada Strategies, a company that provides planning, communications and government relation services.
She was assistant to the city manager and spokeswoman for Las Vegas and was an assistant to McKay, handling his press relations. She is married to Scott Scherer, a member of state Gaming Control Board.
Biaggi also named Leo Drozdoff to be administrator for the state Division of Environmental Protection. He succeeds Biaggi who was appointed by Gov. Kenny Guinn to his present position.
Drozdoff, 39, has been with the division for nearly 14 years. He has been deputy administration since 2003. His salary will be $107,116.
