Letter: Victors must be more agreeable to unite nation

The neo-cons, who are quite naturally basking in their victory, are, nevertheless, naive in assuming that all Americans will now fall in with the president's agenda.
Nearly half the nation strongly believes that Bush's first term was a total failure, and we are not likely to support more of the same. There will be no "uniting" until Bush and his followers are ready to be generous in victory and to make major concessions to placate the other half of the population. Doing so can only work for the betterment of the economy, the environment, health care and preservation of our civil liberties.
Lasting victory comes only when the victors are generous toward the defeated. If the arrogance of Bush continues unabated, we will remain a nation bitterly divided.
