The Community College of Southern Nevada will keep its rich pipeline to Division I baseball open today when six Coyotes will sign D-I commitments.
At the top of that list, according to CCSN coach Tim Chambers, will be Mike Dunn, a pitcher/outfielder from Cimarron-Memorial High who hit .306 last season and received first-team All-Region 18 honors.
Shawn Olson, a pitcher/outfielder from Utah, will become the first Coyote to sign with traditional power USC. That offer, Chambers said, is worth 90 percent of a full scholarship, worth approximately $40,000 a year.
Chambers said Olsen transferred to CCSN from Salt Lake Community College to get more exposure. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Georgia and San Diego State were also interested in Olsen.
Pitcher Ryan Tabor (Tennessee), shortstop/outfielder Chris Siewert (Tennessee), pitcher Jesse Craig (BYU) and third baseman/second baseman Kyle Price (Oklahoma) are the other Coyotes graduating to major college baseball programs.
"It's a big signing day for us," said Chambers. "They've all been drafted at least once, and they all had multiple offers. It's just neat that the six players signed with five different schools. Awesome.
"They're helping us recruit. Players see that (CCSN players) are getting recruited by all the Top 25 programs in the country. The flip side is that it's just exciting to see our guys get to play in places like this."
Chambers said the six were to gather at Lied Field today to sign their scholarship offers.
