MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Supporters of a proposed hotel and casino at the former Weston Hospital approached MTR Gaming Group Inc. with their idea nearly a year ago, and the parent company of Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort could become involved now that voters have endorsed the concept.
"I'm not sure what our role will be, if at all ... but we will be holding discussions," said MTR President and CEO Ted Arneault.
Despite similar-sounding names, Chester-based MTR and the Weston developers, The Mountaineer Group LLC, are not affiliated in any way, MTR spokeswoman Tamara Pettit said Tuesday.
Pettit confirmed she met last year with Weston Mayor Jon Tucci and Weston Development Authority Director Frank Moots when they visited the Northern Panhandle track.
