MonteLago will host ice skating

Throughout December MonteLago Village Resort at Lake Las Vegas will celebrate Winter Weekends, which kicks off with the opening of the ice skating rink Saturday.

Skaters can twirl around the ice while floating atop Lake Las Vegas.

On Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m., visitors to MonteLago Village can watch a TV special being filmed on the rink. The rink is also an ideal location for holiday parties and is available for private use.

The cost for ice skating is $11 per hour; $8 per hour for children. Private lessons are $75 per hour or $40 per half hour. Skate rentals are $4.

Boulder Gem Club plans annual show

The Boulder Gem Club will hold its 25th annual Mini-Show 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Members will display and demonstrate the lapidary arts. There will be cabochon making, faceting, carving, fossils, and florescent rocks.

Students can see first-hand what fun can come from rocks and minerals.

Black Gospel Theater event set

Palace Station will host the Las Vegas Black Gospel Theater dinner and theatrical presentation 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a matinee Sunday.

The fundraiser will include a dinner and an original play with both traditional and contemporary gospel music. The proceeds from the production will go towards covering the operating expenses for their "Summer Theater Youth Program." The program was developed to provide positive educational experiences for local youth. The program includes sessions on acting, singing and learning the fundamentals of the theater business.

Donations are $40; $20 for children 10 and under.

COW Stampede planned Saturday

Imprints Day School and COW (Classroom on Wheels) will present the seventh annual Great Nevada COW Stampede 5k, 1-mile Milk Run/Walk and Kids Race 2004 at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Imprints Day School, 8185 Tamarus St.

Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to come out and enjoy the festivities, which include awards, prize drawings, music, food and fun. All kids will receive a medal.

Online forum will discuss workforce

The Labor Department's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will host a virtual forum now through Nov. 19 to engage government, businesses and faith-based and community groups in a discussion about the 21st century workforce.

The free conference, "Dreams, Stories and Opportunities: Community and Faith-Based Solutions for the 21st Century Workforce," will take place entirely online and is part of the agency's Touching Lives and Communities Technical Assistance Project.

Participants will be able to exchange views and ideas with a host of government and business leaders as well as leaders of faith-based and community groups from across the country.

In the first week, Labor Department staff will discuss with participants the changing economy and how to prepare people effectively for the job market and high growth industries. A number of authors, scholars, and local nonprofit leaders will also share innovative partnership models and their thoughts about how faith-based and community organizations can better serve their communities and find public and private financial support.

a new 800 number to help members and other consumers to fight back against price gouging for flu shots. The toll-free number, (877) 358-2678, is staffed from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. To help stop price gougers in their tracks, the line will provide a way to report any pricing irregularities that people are aware of, either through personal experience or through friends or neighbors.
