Woman injured in five-vehicle accident

One woman was injured in a five-vehicle accident in North Las Vegas on Monday, and although the details of her condition were not disclosed by police at the scene, one police official said that she was stable and "conscious" when she was taken to the University Medical Center trauma center.

The accident, which occurred on Gowan Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard, took place when a pick-up truck collided with the rear of a small Daihatsu automobile, said North Las Vegas Police Sgt. Dan Ewing on Monday.

The Daihatsu spun out of control while the pick-up truck collided with a second pick-up, which in turn collided with a sedan before finally hitting the back of a large SUV, Ewing said.

A total of five drivers and nine passengers in various cars were involved in the collisions, but no one other than the woman in the small Daihatsu was injured, Ewing said.

"If someone was in the back of the Daihatsu, they would be dead right now," Ewing said, pointing to the mangled remains of the Daihatsu.

Weather did not play a factor in the crash on Monday even though it had been raining for most of the day, Ewing said. None of the drivers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol either, Ewing said.
