The dog suffered minor injuries when Gilbert Delacruz of Las Vegas drove toward the officer and the dog as they tried to catch him at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Industrial Road, police said in a release.

The officer fired at Delacruz, but did not hit him, police reported. The officer was placed on administrative leave per Metro policy.

Car surfing man in serious condition

A 29-year-old Las Vegas man remained hospitalized in serious condition this morning as a result of his "car surfing" near Decatur Boulevard and Grand Teton Drive in North Las Vegas Sunday, police said.

North Las Vegas police said that about 9:30 a.m. Sunday 28-year-old Natalia Brooks was driving north on Decatur with her husband, Ralph Brooks, on the hood of their vehicle.

She stopped the vehicle when her husband's hat blew off, and the sudden stop threw Ralph Brooks to the ground, police said. Police will decide whether to charge Natalia Brooks based on the extent of her husband's injuries and results of blood tests which should determine whether alcohol or drugs were involved, police said. The investigation was ongoing this morning.

Earlier this year, a car surfing mishap killed a local teenager.

Adasha Edison, 16, died from head injuries she sustained when she fell off a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer in the parking lot of Shadow Hills High School in early February.

The P-38 World War II warplane called Glacier Girl, set to star at the Fremont Street Experience Patriot Party, will not be displayed downtown due to problems that arose with the effort to transport the plane from the North Las Vegas Airport, Fremont Street Experience officials said this morning.

Glacier Girl was originally scheduled to be on display at Third and Fremont Streets Friday through Nov. 14. It landed at the North Las Vegas Airport Wednesday.

Initially the obstacles involved obtaining of the permits needed to move the plane, Lisa Robinson, the Fremont Street Experience marketing director, said Sunday.

This morning, Joe Schillaci, president and chief executive of the Fremont Street Experience, said that after being unable to figure out how to transport the plane without risk of damage, the display was canceled.

The hope now is that the plane can be displayed at Nellis Air Force Base as part of the Aviation Nation air show.
