New report card to include test scores

Parents of some Clark County schoolchildren will soon receive a new report card that will include scores from their child's proficiency exams as well as advice about how to help that child improve.

The reports will be sent to parents of children in grades 3, 5, 8 and 10 who took the Nevada Criterion-Referenced Examination in reading and math or the High School Proficiency Exam in reading and math.

The Nevada Legislature contracted with the Grow Network, a division of McGraw-Hill, to provide the reports, which are funded through the Legislature.

Information about the program is available at www.growparents.com. School district officials also are encouraging parents to attend a free workshop, conducted in English and Spanish, on how to best utilize the reports.

The workshop schedule is:

Tuesday: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Northeast Region Training Room, 5204 Goldfield St.; 3:30 p.m., Southwest Region Training Room, 4760 W. Desert Inn Road; 6 p.m., Green Valley High School, Room 200, 460 Arroyo Grande. (English only.)

Wednesday: 10 8 a.m., Chaparral High School Theater, 3850 Annie Oakley; 9 a.m., Greenspun Junior High School Little Theater, 140 N. Valle Verde. (English only); 9 a.m. Cimarron-Memorial High School, Room 200, 2301 N. Tenaya Way. (English only); 1 p.m., Robison Middle School, library, 825 Marion Drive; 4 p.m., Southwest Region Training Room, 4760 W. Desert Inn Road. (English only); 5:30 p.m., Sunrise Acres Elementary School, 211 28th St. (Spanish only); 6:30 p.m., Durango High School, Room 404, 7100 W. Dewey Drive. (English only.)
