Burial scheduled for Marine killed in Iraq

Las Vegas Marine Pfc. John Lukac will be buried at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City on Wednesday following a 10 a.m. service at the First Presbyterian Church, a Marine spokesman said Thursday.

Lukac, a 2003 honors graduate of Durango High School, was killed during an attack in Iraq on Saturday. His body was expected to be returned to Las Vegas today.

Sunday's 11 a.m. services at the First Presbyterian Church at 1515 W. Charleston Blvd., which Lukac attended, will feature prayer and remembrances by fellow Marines, family and other friends, Marine Staff Sgt. Tom McCarty said.

There will also be a viewing at Palm Mortuary at 1600 S. Jones Blvd., 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, McCarty said.

A scholarship fund for Lukac's 15-year-old brother Peter has been established in John Lukac's name. Donations can be sent to the Bank of America, routing No. 026009593, account No. 004970387707.

Flowers and gifts can be delivered to the Marine Corps League at the Leatherneck Club, 4360 W. Spring Mountain Rd.

Lukac, who was remembered Tuesday by teachers and fellow students in a moment of silence at Durango, was one of eight Marines killed and nine injured in an attack Saturday in the Al Anbar province.
