SBC Communications Inc. and BellSouth Corp., the second and third-largest U.S. local-telephone companies, created a directory joint venture and agreed to buy Yellowpages.com Inc. of Henderson to expand in online directory services.
The companies expect to complete the purchase as soon as today, they said in a statement. No price was included in the release.
San Antonio-based SBC and Atlanta-based BellSouth said they expect consumers to perform more than 50 million searches a month through the service.
Yellowpages.com received state incentives to expand in Henderson earlier this year. The company received more than $100,000 in tax abatement and deferral and was expected to add more than 150 jobs.
"The new venture will be headquartered in Pasadena, Calif., with operations in Henderson, and it will draw on the technology, management, sales forces and customer care capabilities of all three companies," an SBC statement said.
