Green Valley's sweep of its regional girls' volleyball quarterfinal match against Valley on Tuesday set the tone for the rest of the day's competition.
Southeast teams dominated as Sunrise play opened at Coronado High School, and Las Vegas was the only Northeast team to even win a game in taking Foothill to five. Green Valley and Football will meet in one of Thursday's semifinal. Coronado will face Silverado in the other semifinal.
"We just got into our groove," Gators coach Erin Hill said. "We just got into a little bit of a rhythm. It's nice to have the momentum."
Kaui Piena had 14 assists and three aces for the Gators, who were in fairly competitive contests for the first two games with Valley. But the Vikings couldn't hang on in the third game -- Green Valley went on a 15-1 run to close out the match.
Regional quarterfinals continued today at Coronado, with the Sunset teams scheduled to start with Cimarron-Memorial against Sierra Vista at 2:30 p.m. In other games today, Centennial will play Durango, Palo Verde will play Clark, and Shadow Ridge will play Bishop Gorman.
