Lecture looks at caring for parents
Laurie Moore, director of the Senior Mental Health Outreach Program at the Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, and facilitator of the Children of Older Parents Support Group, will host a free community lecture, "Caring for Aging Parents," from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m Tuesday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.
The presentation will explore some of the challenges that arise from caring for or about parents as they age.
The lecture is open to the public.

Author Peg Crandall
will honor local caregivers and share their inspirational stories 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Nevada Cancer Center, 1950 Desert Inn Road. For more information, call (303) 766-1670.
Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer
of Southern Nevada will hold its 17th annual golf classic Monday beginning with regitration 10 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 11 at the Canyon Gate Country Club. Admission is $300 per person. Call 737-1919.
Clark County Sunrise Manor Land Use Plan
will hold an open house to gather comments for updating the plan 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Eldorado High School, 1139 N. Linn Lane. Call Carolyn Boyle at 455-5186 for more information.
Salvation Army needs blankets
The Salvation Army, Clark County Command, has a critical need for blankets at the Lied Social Services Campus.
The blankets will be used for both the clients living at the Salvation Army and for the homeless who stay overnight at the shelter.
Drop off blankets at 31 W. Owens Ave. or 2900 Palomino Lane. Twin-size blankets are preferred but all blankets are welcome. No bedspreads.

More than 3,000 people participated
in the American Cancer Society's fifth annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk Saturday, raising over $230,000. The 3.5-mile walk kicked off at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort with opening ceremonies that included Rep. Shelley Berkley and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.
