Aetna Inc. announced Tuesday that it has donated $1.5 million to Catholic Healthcare West.
Aetna's grant will be used for a computerized system that enables physicians to post patients' orders, a remote access system that would allow them to access patient information from outside Catholic Healthcare West hospitals and a physicians' computer lab, the companies said in a joint statement.
Aetna's contribution is part of a $151 million investment Catholic Healthcare West announced in February to improve patient safety and convert its 42 hospitals to a paperless-records system.
Aetna insures about 62,000 Nevadans and Catholic Healthcare West has two Henderson hospitals, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals -- Siena Campus and St. Rose Dominican Hospitals -- Rose de Lima Campus. A third St. Rose hospital is under construction in the southwest part of Las Vegas.
