Woman raped after break-in

A man broke into a home in southeast Las Vegas shortly before midnight Monday and sexually assaulted a woman, Metro Police said.

The woman called 911 at 12:04 a.m. today and reported that she awoke to find a man in her home in the 3900 block of Deer Haven Court, near U.S. 95 and Tropicana Avenue, police said.

Officer Jose Montoya, police spokesman, said the man beat her, tied her up and sexually assaulted her.

She was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

It was not clear this morning if the woman knew her assailant or if he was a stranger. Police were still investigating.

A man who was shot dead

shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday on Tam Drive near Cleveland Avenue has been identified by the coroner's office as 23-year-old Quaza Burns of North Las Vegas. Metro Police said a car drove up and someone in the car opened fire on Burns and two other men. Burns was later pronounced dead at University Medical Center. No arrests had been made by this morning, police said.

A 27-year-old man found shot

to death about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in a room at the Barcelona hotel, 5011 E. Craig Road near Nellis Boulevard, has been identified as Mario Vasquez of Las Vegas. His girlfriend discovered his body, police said. No arrests had been made in connection with the case this morning, police said.
