Letter: Goodman best at promoting self
Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 | 8:56 a.m.
Our outspoken Las Vegas mayor, Oscar Goodman, has no time for the city's homeless population, which includes women, children and mentally ill people. He doesn't have the time because he is so involved in every silly event that's going on. It's amazing how much time he has to do these things. He's not doing them for Las Vegas; he's doing them for his own satisfaction and ego.
For example, was his time really well spent when he was promoting a mob museum for downtown? What has he really accomplished? He's all the time talking of his crowning achievement, the 61 acres of redevelopment land that he pushed the city into buying for a heavy price five years ago. But it's still vacant.
He calls Las Vegas his city, not the people's. He can do whatever he wants. I ask people what he has done for the city and they can never come up with anything important. He just wants to be on TV and in the newspaper. I wonder if he is the male Paris Hilton, who is everywhere doing nothing.
The mayor should remember: The quiet ones change the universe. The loud ones take the credit.
