Motorcyclist dies in crash
Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 | 9:17 a.m.
A motorcyclist was killed early Saturday evening in a collision at Martin Luther King Boulevard near Owens Avenue.
He was identified this morning as 33-year-old Zedrick Mitchell Robinson. The coroner's office did not know where he lived.
A police officer observed the motorcyclist "doing wheelies" and driving recklessly on the road about 7:15 p.m., police said. The officer turned on his lights and sirens and tried to pull the 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle over, but the driver would not stop, police said.
The motorcyclist drove south on Martin Luther King Boulevard, past Washington Avenue, and tried to pass a 1997 Mercury Tracer through a small opening between the car and the curb, police said.
The motorcyclist sideswiped the Mercury and struck a pole on the side of the road; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is the 115th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
