Temple Beth Am sponsors gala event
The Temple Beth Am, 9001 Hillpointe Road, is sponsoring a gala event 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the temple to benefit the Adult Day Care Center, Shenker Academy, and Temple Community Services.
The evening promises to be fraught with entertainment, gourmet food, and a bar stocked with an extensive selection of the Mayor's favorite drinks.

Social health indicators examined
The UNLV Center for Democratic Culture and William S. Boyd School of Law will sponsor a conference during the Justice and Democracy Forum series on "Leading Social Indicators in Nevada: Quality of Life in the Silver State" 9 a.m. Friday at UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.
The event will bring together scholars, politicians, and community activists who will reflect on social health indicators in the Silver State, compare our vital statistics to the figures from other states, and produce a report on social health in Nevada that will serve as a resource for the government and non-government organizations.
The conference will be moderated by Professors Mary Berheiser.

Big Brothers, Sisters celebrates 100 years
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of its mentoring program, as well as pay tribute to the City of Las Vegas and the celebration of its Centennial, during the "Big Gala" 6 p.m. Saturday at Caesars Palace.
Patrons have a chance to win a 10-day Mexican Riviera cruise for two by buying raffle tickets for $10 or six for $50, by calling 731-2227, ext. 428.
